The “pop” self-help book The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes was an international phenomenon made into a movie that gained a tremendous following. It was packaging at its finest, taking a basic concept and making it into a franchise. Impressive because its sole “secret” was the law of attraction, which has been part of the new age movement for decades. The Secret franchise ultimately became a way for the leading “gurus” in self-development to promote themselves and earn segments on Oprah and TED talks.
I think there is a lot to be said about how we create energy and quantum physics, as Jim Carey placed a $1,000,000 check above his bed to visualize one day actually earning it!
To take The Secret to its most practical application is to look at it as stating what you want and getting very clear on the following step action (s) you need to take to get there. Create a to-do list of subsequent actions and a timetable to get it done.
Stating what we want is not as easy as it seems. Most people can’t articulate to themselves or anyone else what they want from life, their job, and personal development. And this can be understandable when you consider we have responsibilities to family and financial obligations to meet while navigating the ever-changing world and natural forks in the road.
